3D printed objects, fabric, metal wires
Designed for the eponymous video work, the Joan of Arc outfit involves a combination of fabric, metal wire, and 3D printed materials to conjure a modern-day reimagining of its titular historical figure. Joan’s iconic armor, representative of her bravery, is brought into the twenty-first century as gray 3D printed chainmail. The drapery of bright red and white fabric, in tandem with an iridescent mesh pattern, evokes the solemnity of a heroine being consumed by flames. Drawing from Catholic imagery, white is a symbol for innocence, while red stands for passion. This juxtaposition present in Joan’s story rises again to the surface in Tinubu’s costume rendition. Glasses and a blonde wig adorned with hands jutting out into space indecisively either pull us in or push us out, its idiosyncrasies either intentional or erroneous. In being worn by a wide array of actors in the video work, ranging in stature and presentation, Joan of Arc is deemed both one and all. - Emma Huerta
