Last Spring emerged two years after experiencing the loss of a loved one. More specifically, it isolates the feeling of seasons passing by, and people happily going along with them, yet one remains immovable. The two channels of video represent two realities: the enjoyment of spring and the reminder of loss it can also evoke. From bright scenes of nature and intimacy erupt dark storms and pain. Flowers droop. Colors fade away. Berries lose their sweetness. One runs and runs but goes nowhere. The juxtaposition between the two depictions of spring demonstrates the lack of life in grief. The film is silent and theatrical, hosting the crux of its affect in gesture and expressivity. - Emma Huerta
